Accessing and Sharing Data Remotely and Securely
With a majority of companies in the U.S. offering some sort of remote work accommodations, working from home or on the road is now the norm. But adding VPN licenses and upgrading VPN hosts can be costly. Furthermore, many organizations work collaboratively with partners and need to securely share network-stored documents.
Work Doesn’t Always Happen at the Office
Work doesn’t end once you leave the office. Whether it’s work after hours or on the road, there are emails to send, reports to update, and documents to share – some even with people outside of the organization. Accommodating these workers with remote access to Windows Server stored files to access and share network-stored documents can be challenging from a cost, security, and even training perspective.
Difficulties in Making Accommodations
Depending on the size of the organization, getting approval for remote NTFS access to documents can go through multiple management layers. Once approval has been obtained, there might be remote access software to install both on servers and laptops. Then there could be additional accommodations to make including moving files to new locations on the network and establishing remote access permissions.
The Need for Ease of Use
Both management and the remote workers expect a fast deployment and rollout of the remote access system with an interface that is easy to use, requiring little to no training. Additionally, both expect all of the Windows file system permissions to remain intact. Management wants the flexibility of enabling some network locations for remote access while leaving others accessible only while on-prem. Finally, management wants document sharing to be absolutely secure.
